Chevy Tahoe Hybrid SUV? Read the Fine Print (LINK)
December 9th 2007 05:16
I thought hybrids were supposed to have better fuel economy? Chevy and GM, me thinks the commercials promise too much.
The fine print on this ad says that the average miles per gallon on this hybrid is 20 MPG. That is still worse than the average MPG for standard passenger cars, which is 27.5 by the way.
Here's a still of the fine print.
(thank you Autoblogreen)
The EPA testing has not been done yet, per the commercial. Strange, the website says the EPA estimates the fuel economy at 21 mpg. And if you go through the EPA website, the Tahoe hybrid is not listed. So who is behind (or ahead) of whom?
I have been skeptical of GM/Chevy's ad campaign ever since it started running earlier this year. And this shows me that my doubts are not unfounded.
Yes, I applaud the fact that the Big 3 automakers are finally jumping on the green bandwagon, but let's call a spade a spade, shall we?
If you are seriously thinking about buying a hybrid, please think sensibly and logically about your decision. Don't trust the advertising!
Side note** Did you notice that Chevy compares the MPG of the Tahoe hybrid to that of the conventional Toyota Camry on the website? They are actually on target with that. The city MPG for the Camry really is only 19 MPG, but here's the difference. The highway MPG for the Camry is 38. The Tahoe Hybrid only 22. And that is only an estimate.
Sincerely,
